FINAL OUTCOME CARD — A2
INSPECTIONS ARE NOT ENOUGH. People can carry the disease before obvious signs appear. Trade continues and the outbreak gains opportunities to spread.
HISTORY REVEAL: THE BLACK DEATH
A deadly disease began spreading between cities through travel and trade. Nobody understood germs or exactly how the disease spread. Most places continued allowing people, ships and goods to travel because trade was necessary for food and money. The disease spread across Europe and killed millions. Later, some cities began keeping travelers and ships separated for a period of time—an early form of quarantine.
DEBATE: Was this outcome avoidable? What choice would you defend now that you know the history?
