Germany had already taken over much of Europe, but Britain was still fighting. Germany also had an agreement with the Soviet Union not to attack each other. Hitler broke the agreement and invaded the Soviet Union in 1941. Germany won huge victories at first, but the Soviet Union was enormous and kept fighting. Germany became stuck in a massive war that helped lead to its defeat in World War II.
